ABOUT THE EXHIBIT

Flip through your yearbooks, put on your letter jacket, pull your mum out of storage, then take a trip down memory lane with friends and family at MUMENTOUS, open Sept. 23 - Oct. 14 at the Grapevine Tower Gallery on Main Street in the heart of historic Grapevine, Texas.

MUMENTOUS: Football, Glue Guns, Moms, and a Super-Sized High School Tradition Born Deep in the Heart of Texas is a brand-new traveling exhibit of the Texas Lakes Trail Region. It is being debuted in Grapevine in partnership with the Grapevine Convention and Visitors Bureau and the City of Grapevine.

“The Texas Lakes Trail is thrilled to launch MUMENTOUS with the City of Grapevine,” said Jill Campbell Jordan, Executive Director of Texas Lakes Trail. “There’s just something about this exhibit that inspires people to share memories of their high school years. That is what I love the most about it: the shared experience.”

MUMENTOUS the Traveling Exhibit explores the evolution of Texas high school homecoming mums from their humble beginnings in the 1920s through today’s highly-varied practices. The exhibit’s photography and narratives touch on a number of topics including the emergence of high school football, fan and pop culture, the DIY movement, entrepreneurship, and women as tradition-keepers. MUMENTOUS is a collaboration between the Texas Lakes Trail Region, author Amy J. Schultz, and the University of Texas at Arlington Libraries Special Collections.

Exhibit dates: Sept. 23-Oct. 14, 2023
Open Monday-Saturday from 10am-6pm; Closed Sunday.
EXTENDED HOURS ON WED., OCT. 4: OPEN DURING THE GHS HOMECOMING PARADE!

MUMENTOUS the book is for sale at Talking Animal Books, 103 W Worth St, Grapevine, TX 76051 (only a couple blocks away from the Grapevine Tower Gallery).
